Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Delegates,
It is my immense pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the 22nd Annual Conference of the Indian Fertility Society (IFS 2026), to be held in the vibrant and culturally rich city of Kolkata.
This conference marks a truly historic milestone, as for the very first time in its illustrious journey, the Annual Conference of the Indian Fertility Society comes to the City of Joy. Renowned for its warmth, intellectual heritage, scientific spirit, and hospitality, Kolkata provides the perfect backdrop for an enriching academic and professional gathering that celebrates both the legacy and the future of reproductive medicine.
Kolkata occupies a unique and distinguished place in the history of fertility science. It was here that India’s first and the world’s second IVF baby, Durga (Kanupriya Agarwal), was born in 1978 through the pioneering efforts of Dr Subhash Mukhopadhyay, Dr Sunit Mukherjee, and Dr Saroj Kanti Bhattacharya. Their visionary work placed Kolkata permanently on the global map of reproductive medicine and laid the foundation for the extraordinary advances in Assisted Reproductive Technology that continue to transform countless lives today.
Beyond fertility science, Kolkata has long been a cradle of medical innovation, education, and scientific excellence. Home to Medical College Kolkata, the first modern medical college in India, the city has nurtured generations of physicians, scientists, researchers, and academicians who have shaped healthcare across the nation. Kolkata's rich intellectual legacy is further reflected in its association with Nobel Laureates, pioneering researchers, and transformative thinkers whose contributions have influenced medicine, science, literature, economics, and humanity itself.
Over the past two decades, the Indian Fertility Society (IFS) has emerged as India’s foremost platform for advancing reproductive medicine, embryology, fertility preservation, reproductive genetics, and assisted reproductive technologies. Under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Dr Neena Malhotra, President of IFS, the Society continues to foster scientific excellence, innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, ethical practice, and evidence-based patient care across the fertility fraternity.
IFS 2026 has been meticulously designed to bring together clinicians, embryologists, reproductive biologists, geneticists, researchers, counsellors, nurses, and allied professionals from India and around the world.
Beyond the scientific programme, I invite you to immerse yourself in Kolkata’s unique blend of history, culture, literature, art, architecture, cuisine, and hospitality.
I warmly invite all IFS members and non-members alike to be part of this landmark event. Together, let us celebrate scientific progress, exchange ideas, build meaningful collaborations, inspire future generations, and shape the future of fertility care.
“From Durga to the future of reproductive medicine, Kolkata has witnessed the evolution of fertility science. IFS 2026 invites you to be part of the next chapter.”
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I look forward to welcoming you to Kolkata for an unforgettable academic, professional, and cultural experience at IFS 2026.
With warm regards,
